How can i prevent icons from being able to be dragged about in listview? unfortunatly all the icons can be moved about the control which i dont want, I want it to be like the new file wizard in office, visual basic and windows media encoder, it never seems to work properly for me, ive tried using lock but it doesnt prevent the icons being moved

No....an image list is, a list of images, which you associate with like a listview for the icons, its a control.
And alex, the only time i can see when there is not a selected item is when there it loses focus, so like set a var on the lostfocus event.
Err, the only time it actually isnt focus is when you double click in the white area on the listview, when ListView1.SelectedItem.Selected actually returns false

I believe the effect you're looking for is "Tiled View". It's avaliable in MS Common Controls 6.0.. Although I'm not 100% sure it's avaliable in VB's OCX for it... Check on vbAccelerator for a control capable of doing it (vbAlListView?). If you want to turn off the margin, look for a property thingy with a number like 250.0 or something to that effect.
