ps. hawk claims to know the authentication but it would be a cold day in h3ll before he'd come off any code lol Yeah, I don't plan to open source it, but I have been considering "expanding the user base" or releasing some information..., MSN is so dead now, I'd almost rather have the kiddies back, as at least there would be someone to yell at I've been doing more with C++ in Linux lately than anything else, so MSN chat isn't even a close second right now. In the end, I may just stay on my own server, as the room on MSN is even quieter.

well release away mate because im rapidly losing interest. If something doesnt change I am going to cancel my account.
All I want to know is the convertion of the 8 characters the server sends to the 16 characters the ocx sends back

To Serv: AUTH GateKeeper I :GKSSP\0Ä\0\0\0\0\0\0 From Serv: AUTH GateKeeperPassport S :GKSSP\0\0\0\0\0\0\0{¹¾âL¡Å To Serv: AUTH GateKeeper S :GKSSP\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0\0bÞÓ>ðùBøt„ZËÃ\0u\r„ï¹å–gFŽ»Šo⯬
I notice that only one character ( Ä ) changes in the initial auth the ocx sends an any character will work in replace of it
In the data from the server everything is usually constant except the last 8 characters ( {¹¾âL¡Å )
The return data the ocx sends is constant up until the last 32 characters. Now the last 16 ( \r„ï¹å–gFŽ»Šo⯬ ) are generated for the guest gatekeeper but the 16 before it are required ( bÞÓ>ðùBøt„ZËÃ\0u )

For starters, forget about that character in the middle of the nulllstring... I'm still not certain what it does... It seems to be a kind of timestamp, but it does not affect the authentication. Awhile back, there was some VB source code out that could do the 3.0 Auth, anyone else remember that? No need to start fresh... might as well use something that is already in place, and build on it. That is all I'm going to say for now. It is not so much that I do not like open source... In fact it is quite the opposite. However, anything that gets revealed to the masses gets fixed. It happened to my method for getting IP addresses (Tewl ), as well as MSNTV, and other things. I'd like to still be able to authenticate OCX free for awhile.

i can still use 3.0 i believe if i just change the data a bit but i would like to free myself of the need for an ocx at all then i could start on a non windows based client.

I agree hawk, that seems to be the trend, and I too would like to keep connecting without the MSN ActiveX Control.

how come its such a big deal, accepting the connection form the ocx and getting the auth gkp s data string uses barely any resources at alll as it can be closed before sending the data back to the server.

Well there are a couple reasons.
Webbrowser control
This is really annoying because of the sound the control makes plus the msgbox it gives out if there are connection problems.
Edited control
Most scripts use msnchatx.ocx which is an edited version of the 4.2 ocx Not only is this illegal but what if msn decides to change again you cannot always depend on someone else to edit another control or if they even can. not to mention it interferes with webchat capabilities.
