old fountains worked on the principle of water pressure, the more water in a reservoir the higher the pressure and thus, the higher the fountain, the water above the water next to the little hole pushes half the tank empty the first hour, half of half the tank the nexthour, half of half of half the tank the next hour, etc, so it would never empty completly, in practise it also never becomes completly dry, except when the temperature is high enough to heat what's still in the tank
and another case, when the tank was open from above, air pressure would have influenced the process and (if and only if the bottom was completly straight) in this case it might also empty
I think ozzywiz was the one who had it right
lol, this made me think of something we where discussing once, if ur travelling from point A to point B, u necessarily must travel half of the distance to point B before travelling all of the distance now from that point u must again travel half of the remaining distance. If u continue to do so (travel half of the distance) u will never reach point B ... paradoxes ... *sight* [/font]
