Daughter. As stupid as it may sound she deserves the chance of life more, purely because of her young age. She's also the most vulnerable - where as wife/mother may be able to save themselves (in theory), a child would generally have no clue as to what to do (especially if they couldnt swim). And with your daughter... it's almost as if a part of her is your wife (if that makes any sense). Tough debate

the girl who told me this had an answer...
like i said it was a story that was told to everyone. i think it was a story about respect and love and pretty much displays how her culture is very much a patriacal one.
you should save your father. a girl can always marry again and have more children. but a girl can only ever have one father.

yea but that doesnt make sence, you will never love partners or kids in the same way cause everyones different, loosing your own child must be more tramatic then loosing your father because the child is something you helped bring into the world, and your partner is someone youve lived with for years but your dad / mum youve moved away from (generally) to live your own life becides if it was out of save my dad or my wife it would be my wife... i hate my dad

you cant gaurentee that andrew, i mean the mother might outlive the kids, u never can tell these days Well for example, your mother could have already lived 40 years, and your son 16...who would you want to give more of a chance to?

I would tell my wife to grab the hand of my mother, and tell my mom to grab the hand of my daughter... if I've the strength I'll save them all... in any case it would worth a shot.

either that or they will pull you under I'll take my chances in this situation, if I only have the choice to save them in 1 go.

well in this scenario the only choice is to save one. there is no option to leave them all or to try and save all three. [/b][/i]

fed up readin again, but i agree wif ozzy.
me ma has lived a long while, me partner just as long as me, me kid only a short time....
so i would save my kid, they would always come first.
if the question was to get really hard they would ask who would u save, son or daughter, no one could really answer that one.

Natural instinct and self preservation says you wouldnt. Although you would like too. Funny thing about the human mind and free will, if you feel strongly enough about something, you can easily walk to your own death, full well knowing what the outcome will be. Ok, same thing, but to eliminate some of your loop hole logic. Three men have your mother, wife, and daughter at gunpoint. Two must die, you must choose. There is a fourth man that has you at gunpoint. If you fail to choose, all four of you die, if you choose two, you and the one you did not choose will live and go free. If you choose yourself, all four will die. Now who do you choose? For me, My mother is already dead, so that is one choice eliminated. And I am sure my wife would understand why I would choose her as the second. And I would promise not to remarry and to have some shoot me if I did.

your wife would understand why your letting her get killed instead of yourself?

Do the math Alex, if I choose myself, all four of us die including my wife. If I choose 1 of the 3 besides myself, only 2 die. Now if it were you in place of my wife, your going to die either way, would you not prefer only 2 die instead of 4. If I could choose myself and save all 3, or 2 of the others, I would gladly do so, but alas, that is not an option.
