First I thought bots... but then I thought scripts (as it would probably be easier to write a connection with mIRC, rather than with VB or whatever).. but then again, I really dont know.
I wasnt here when it all started

i got told it was bots and i got told this years ago. So after years of mirc being so popular and so many people connecting to irc with mirc, before anything else, they decide to create a bot to try and connect to msn...

BOTS did surely
IRC Dominator and Viper being the first i think to allow you to join with a passport, although many before that allowed you to connect as a guest.
Was MSN Kit the first puplic IRC connection to allow you to connect to MSN chat with a script ?

I remember Lucy's dream.. terrible crap to get it connected and mirc was required. I had this thing before Viper or Dominator, but it doesnt mean a thing lol

HTML editing and javascripts were probably the start of it all. VB macro bots came then, remember master and kube! (I've still got all of them macro bots archieved ) Then mirc scripts like msn project with no nicklist. Then perhaps VB connection bots/clients & more advanced mirc scripts. I've based this all on publically available resources, may be the case certain people had personal mirc scripts and clients, cant be sure. NOTE: you did say "connected" ... VB macro bots didnt "connect", so id say some basic mirc script was first (hard to remember that far back). Shame we can't go back to the old days Lucy's dream was a delux version of msn project!

Actually, I would have to say that bots were connected first, given the selection available. When I was hosting with Peers during the switchover (from the old IRC to the webchat junk), we had bots monitoring our rooms within 6 hours of the opening of "beta chat". After that came the various MSN Staff programs... What would everyone here classify Comic Chat as? It's not a bot, but it's not a script either...
