yeah but like i said, making a GUI in borland shouldnt be any different than in MSVC++.
you said "it doesnt make you a better coder" and then said those anologies about how it does change things and make you better.
you confused me, all i see is we are all learning C++, compiler 1 or compiler 2 it makes no difference to me.

Just my 2 cents for what is worth
Books for C++....
The C++ Programming Language Bjarne Stroustrup
This books covers absolutely everything of ANSI C++, nothing related to Windows.
If you want something for Windows there is the Charles Petzold book, and for MFC the Jeff Prosise book.
Compiler If you dont want to get into any trouble I would recommend TUrbo C++, yeah.... DOS Based.. maybe not that user friendly but u r not going to create an OS so that should do it
