The 80's rule, find me a musician today that could hang with those of the 80's. Sure you will here all these young bands make fun of "Hair rock" but that is because they are jealous and the know they suck in comparison to the musicians of that time. Find a guitar player today that could match the talent of Richie Sambora, or Steve Vai, or Tommy Shaw, or Eddie Van Halen. The only ones that come close are the ones that ripped those guys licks. New music today sucks, there is no more originality, no heart in it, no meaning. Way to commercial.
*Edit* I take that back, there are a few today that have some talent, but they are far and few inbetween. And yes Toni, I remember when the dinosaurs became extinct. {coughs up a cloud of dust}

Even though I used to be a big Stevie Ray Vaughan fan, I still have to say that today's music has more feeling to it than the 80's.
-The 80's had more of the "I'm heartbroken, pity me" feeling to it. -The 90's (early 90's) had that "tick on you, I'm a teenager and I rock!" feeling. -The late 90's to Today has that "I'm depressed and I'm trying to keep myself sane" feeling to it.
Bands like Twelve Stones, Seether, Zwan (remembrance to Smashing Pumpkins), ect have always been better (to me) than the 80's. Toni absolutely hates the 80's, but I still listen to the 80's when I'm in that mood. I like the 50's to 60's as well. Like I've said before, the only type of music I do not like is R&B, Rap, Country, and Hip-Hop/Pop. The rest is all good.
I don't know why Smuggy's saying "Oh yeah I love the 80's" when now she's fixated on the 90's and Current music. Pffth..

Oh, I so have to disagree about the 80's David. The 80's was "lets hit the town, have a blast and find some chicks" "Cruise the main strip and check it out, look at all the school girls hanging about"
It was all about s** and rock and roll. I would classify today as more the "pity me, I have no self esteem, the whole world is out to get me"
But my reference was not to lyrics, but to the music itself. The heart and soul you could hear come out with the sound of a guitar. The energy and the vibe that was underneath it all is gone. Very few have that today.

well ya know........ i like all kinds of music even though i'm mainly a rock chick. i like alot of 70's stuff, newer stuff..... hell i even have been known to listen to opera
but i'm sorry..... when it comes to music the rock of the 80's was just a disgrace. Of course that's my opinion, but it sucks. The only decent stuff is some metalica, some areosmith, and faith no more.

Spoken like a true Pearl Jam/Nirvana fan.
What was so disgraceful about it?

But that's just it....
"I have no self-esteem and the world (in fact) is out to get me"
But seriously , lacking self-esteem happens quite a bit in the world. Why do you think things like Paxil and Zoloft are some of the two most commonly prescribed medicines in the United States? People hate theirselves, and they hate others. People don't play nice (lol).
As for music, I've been listening to depressing music since I could remember. It's just the way that I express myself. The "Cruise the Roads, Pick up some chickas, and Have s**" concept didn't really appeal to me. I'm more into the "express yourself, because this is how you feel" type of music.
Although, some would say they like the 80's because they didn't use the studio so much for effects. But imagine some 80's with better effects, wooo..freaky techno-rock feeling to it. Lyrically, I just love the current music. Makes more sense to me than the 80's "Smooth Groove" feeling.

Ok, I will agree with the style/clothes, I could care less about lyrics. But over used rock chords, that is all you hear today. I mean d**n every song is a 4 chord progression. G, D, Em, C. No originality. Throw in a different drumbeat and some different words and call it a new song.

Actually, I have to comment on that. Mark is an amazing guitarist when he's allowed to let go. Unfortunately, he's being held back by the front-man (Stappieboy)... I'm hoping that his solo project will better display his extensive Guitar skills, as well as the fact that the guy can carry a tune a lot better than the drunkard they currently have as lead singer.
