ares...it's hard to comment on a logo, it's such a personal thing.
i would need to know what you want your logo to stand for...a site logo or just a personal logo for examples.
the top one..i dont quite get. i mean it's nice and all but what is it representative of ?
the second one is a little like too many others logos.
good first attempts tho...i think if you worked one them longer you would come up with something better...i know you have it in you
edit: sorry i missed the first sentence of your post. a portfolio, like an artists portfolio i assume you mean.
if thats the case i much prefer the idea of a signature...rather than a logo.
you can have a nice banner across teh top of your page...but your signature will be how ppl will recognise the artist ares.... like you would on a painting...
you could incorporate a smallish design along with your text

Pashy is right. No offence but generally when a company makes a logo, when presented to the public, they don't ask if they like it or not, they make a whole lot of them and its a company decision what one they will use
