well im just getting into photo retouching etc and was trying to merge 2 images into one to make this cool effect but i dont know how to make them properly. so anyone have any help.

thanks mystical but im looking for applieing a layer mask to a face by blending another image into it

Depending on what the image is like, in the layers palette (go to Window > Layers) in Photoshop if it's not already opened, and for what you're after, set the layer to Overlay or Color Burn and it should do what you want it to and play around with the Layer Opacity.
