Need a good VB developer, that can work with irc interfaces - Active-X experience would be useful www.x9chat.com/ These guys are really trying to get a decent replacement online for MSN, but need some help. I am going to jump in and handle the database stuff, but they really need a good VB person - I am conversant, but not "good" - could really use JJ for about 2 weeks

So basically you would like someone to make a clone of the msn chat interface for you? Mhm...which of course you know was done in C++, not VB.

www.x9chat.com/ All they use is a java applet which isn't certified . And as Dangermouse said, the MSN Chat OCX was coded very well, I don't code but I can tell it was well coded. It'll be hard, if not impossible to make a comparison, especially with just 1 person working on making a similar one.

ActiveX controls are pretty simple to make but you have to have a cert for the control in order for IE to prompt for install under normal settings ( IE by default does not allow unsigned controls ).

It isn't a java applet in any form or fashion, it is an active-X control - it is similar to, but not the same as the MSN interface - the server is working fairly well, and they need some help.
All I ever see in here is people talking about how good they are and how MSN "sucks" well here is the opportunity for someone to prove it instead of just talking about it.
There is no requirement that anyone get involved, and if you don't wish to, then that is just fine - if you haven't taken the time to meet the people involved and talk with them, then you really are just full of sour grapes and not providing honest feedback.
I love the way some people are so judgmental with so little information.
Here are some people, that are actually trying to make a difference, and they need some help - this is the group I thought could provide that help.
