Little bit of a perspective change approved by Pashy
I think we would all agree that forcing religion on those that do not want it is wrong. But is it wrong to deny it from those that desire it?

But that is a minority of schools that take that approach Josh. No public school in my area would allow such a thing.

everyone has the right to believe and the right to want to learn about topics, the schools SHOULD teach everyone about the different religions, even in the capasity of a historical reference, after all religion is a big element in todays cultures, how they teach religion at the moment is too ridgid and self centered, they need to expand and show the aspects of every religion, its philosophys, history, ideals, and what its good and bad points are (equal of each), this way children will get the maximum benefit of being able to choose what they believe in, and they should include athiesm as a religion as well because its as old as any religion and it is the belief of not believing, if schools basically get out of the christian hole their stuck in and teach all aspects of religion its more fair on the kids.

schools basically get out of the christian hole their stuck in and teach all aspects of religion its more fair on the kids. At least some religious teaching is better than none. Here in the United States we have what is reffered to as "Seperation of Church, and State" which among other things basically eliminates any religious teachings from government run schools. They teach you what 2+2 is, and teach you about science, history, and such, but what about morality, or what is right, and wrong? In todays society people are being taught that there is no good, or evil. That it is just a perseption of what people believe to be good, or evil. This in turn teaches that there is no real morality, and we can do whatever we perceive is good or evil, because such things don't really exist. Then, you see on the news that a bombing has taken place somewhere like Iraq or some other place like that, and you hear the words "Horrible" "Terrifying", and such. If good, and evil are only the things we perceive to be them, and aren't really real then why do we feel anger to the ones who do these bombings, and such? Why do we have laws against such things? "Evil isn't really real" we are told. So, why punish the "evildoers"? We have laws against such things, because evil is very much real. It is something that has a negative affect on something positive. You take a life of someone, and take a look at the effect it has. If that person was a father then his children will have to grow up fatherless. The wife might cry everytime she hears her husbands name or see a picture of him. These are just some of the negative affect something such as taking a life of someone has, and the very reason why religion, such as Christianity, needs to be taught to children. They learn about everything else, such as how to shoot a gun. How to clean a gun, and how to set the target, and such. When I was in middle school I was taught how to do these things, but there was one thing my teacher never taught me, and that was why I was never to shoot a gun unless it was absolutely neccessary. He never taught me that killing someone was wrong. He just taught me to point, and shoot. Thank God I had parents to teach me why killing of anykind is wrong. However, suppose I didn't have parents to teach me these things. I certainly wouldn't get it from any school, because morality is just something that someone perceives. Morality is a discussion of religious principles best left up to the parents, or churches, and such. No wonder we see so much of things such as kids taking kids lives, or their parents lives, and such.

At least some religious teaching is better than none. im all for religion in schools, its just that christians seem to be the most praticed religion only because it seems to be the only one that schools seem to teach on a large scale, becides... the whole deal of teaching kids these morels from the bible and that is kinda ironic considering most wars are stemmed from religious beliefs, plus the fact that no matter how much people would like to say it, there isnt any evidence to back up any religion on this planet except mabie those french people that believe we came from an alien race which looking at fisher i might agree you dont learn your morels from a school, your morels are from what your parents teach you, if you wont listen to your parents on what is right or wrong, a teacher has absolutly no chance, it is how your parents bring you up to what your morel values are. guns taught in school? and they wonder why theres so much crime, your giving kids weapons to kill each other with and you think kids wouldnt? a teacher can tell a student to stop bullying a kid and they wont, u think they gunna stop them blowing someones brains out?, lol Summery : guns = bad, religion = good only if they teach EVERYTHING and not just christian were talking satanism and athiest included here pashy, a lot of people see religion as a bad thing to learn as a kid but it does have its advantages, if you know all these different ideas you can make a better judgement on wheather you believe in anything or not and there would be a lot more respect for people who are religious if you understand why they believe what they do, if you cut out religion well you may as well cut out history cause its more important then that, religion is something that affects everyone even to this day and will continue to until we get the killer ice age or the comet hits the earth and wipes us off , history is just documenting the past, and its mistakes and how weve learned and triumpthed from it, but though its nice to know whats happened in the past, a lot of it isnt relevent to todays modern living hence not as important and for hecks sake people, dont mix religion with morels, you dont need to be religious to have morels, ive seen more religious people abuse their faiths and go against what they believe in cause their personal feelings clouded their judgement then non believers who dont have religion to worry about and just get on with their lives, lol

knowing different religions isn't bad. but most school systems take the effect of driving it down a students throat without any say.
senior year in highschool i had hummanities as an elective class. and we talked about some underlying religious themes, (also where i got my intro to philosophy). i mean we had issues like abortion and suicide and as people believe different things it was a good learning experience

Throughout time Christianity has been cut here snipped there to suit the age of the era. I can't see that something which has been edited so much, have the true message that it was intended to have in it's original form.
What happened to the apocraphies or the book of Thomas? According to tradition, the Gospel of Thomas was written by Judas Thomas the Twin who was the brother of Jesus. In this gospel, you will find no virgin births, no trinities, no miracles, and no resurrections. The only thing you find are the words of Jesus. Where is the consistency in this? The writings of Paul also lack any mention of a virgin birth, trinity or bodily resurrection. Most scholars date Paul's writings earlier than any of the gospels. If early Christian traditions omitted these essential Christian beliefs, then it seems likely that they were later inventions. The earliest manuscripts date about a hundred years after the original texts were written. How do you know to trust the copyists? Fine if you want to teach Christianity, tell the full story as there is alot more to it than the modern bible tells you so.

i recon they most likely stumbled apon documents that would put the church outta business, and they just edited it to glorify themselves, theres ment to be a missing book of the bible which would basically blow the churches outta business, lol

Yeah well alot of people are scared of whats gonna happen to them when they die. So instead of living there life for the moment, they live it for the so called afterlife. Makes me wonder if they will continue living a life ahead of themselves. I am somewhat of an agnostic & to me there isn't enough concrete evidence that proves miracles, higher beings, the afterlife etc... I still live my life on spiritual terms but not to the gospels of any religion. I believe in a God, but to me it stands for [G]ood [O]rderly [D]irection and if I do what I believe in my heart is right, I can be rewarded that I feel good about it in this life. If there is an afterlife I will worry about it when I'm dead.

in some ways thats one reason why religion has advantages over athiest, if you believe in nothing you will spend the rest of your life waiting to die in some ways though most would make the most of what little they had left, its enough to make you depressed. only downside i see to it is some people may just think, well theres a happy afterlife, might as well just duck my head and do as little as possible till i get there , could be a big anti-climax, lol
