no, it would first give a lot of publicity to alcohol, making it more attractive to test out and second where lies the border, should coffee be banned from making adverts on television, should candies be banned from making adverts on television, should ...
as with lots of things, overusage is unhealthy, but in contrast, one glass of whine or other alcohol per day is good for u  if I drink loads of coffee, it will cause me to get nervous when I don't drink it for a while, when I eat loads of candy I'm used to eating candy and will eat them more, causing overweigth after a while, which isn't healthy neither
and besides, it won't stop me from drinking alcohol and as I mentioned, it will only interest others

legal substance...should be ok to advertise the product just like any other product.
i think the whole cigarette advertising issue is &*^% they should also be allowed to advertise their product.
i dont believe in advertising censorship - or any other censorship really.

I know how hard it is to quit smoking, the more you do to discourage young people to start with smoking in the first place the better it is in my opinion, because your first sigarette always tastes bad.. what encourages people to take the second one then? to be cool I guess, to fit in the group. Cigarette companies add chemicals to even addict you more so they are ensured of income. I still havent smoked since 29-12-03  Anyways with alcohol its diffrent, a beer can actually taste nice in contradiction with a sigarette wich is pure an addiction (mental and physical) so I dont think you can compare sigarettes with alcoholic drinks.. you smoke because you need it and cant do without, majority of the people drink something because they like it. Offcource you would think a sigarette taste nice after dinner, but actually it doesnt lol and you know it. |

lol exile.  I personally don't see the point in advertisments to a benefit. There is more negative outcome of alcohol drinkers then there is a positive outcome. Hundreds of ppl die all the time every mth. All from dumb drunk drivers that care more about getting wasted and getting behind the wheel...and not thinking about ME and MY BABIES coming down the street. Ppl are gonna buy it and use it illegally no matter what. Just like they do ciggs...but when they advertise something like alcohol that kills more then it don't... to me they (makers) are being selfish and looking for money only, of course...and knowing that the biggest percentage of teens and kids watch tv after school more then they go outside. Or before they go to bed. ect... Not to mention the adults that try it and instead of drinking on occasion and indoors only.. they set a bad example too. Maybe if they banned alcohol on tv the ppl would have to go out and look for it in the stores as new stuff was made.. less drinkers if you don't know what's new.. (ok that's just cheesy I know..you will never have less drinkers) anyhow, They shouldn't be picky and choosey about what to ban... they was so d**n quick to slap cigg commercials outta the way..and it kills... alcohol kills too..yet they think it is ok??? MY GOD more kids die with alcohol then you see kids dying with ciggs!!! And most of the kids that die with alcohol are the ones that are innocent.. getting the hell beat outta them by drunk parents, abuse, alcohol overdoseing, victims in car accidents by drunk drivers.. Why would you want to see something advertise on tv whenever it kills innocent familys out for a nice saterday night drive? |

alcohol doesnt kill people, people kill people. lol...well its kind of true Its not bad alcohol thats out driving the streets. Its people who drink and make bad choices. Why let old people behind the wheel?they cant see/hear/react as well as someone in their younger years But it kind of goes into that whole situation I pointed out at first... the way I look at it is like such. I will use guns because its whats fresh on my mind(just bought a new shotty  Have you ever seen a gun rob a place? or shoot at someone? or was it a person behind the gun doing the work. Same ties in with alcohol. I have yet to see a bottle of Jack driving down the street, someone who was under the influence yes... but not the alcohol. Ive had people say my mind would change if I had friends who died from drunk drivers... well guess what. I have had 2. Still doesnt change my opinion on the subject. People will do dumbrosygarden things all the time. Cant stop em all.....and I think the beer ads on tv are the least of our concerns right now(see Hamas founder being shot with missles as he leaves a mosqe) Im sure I repeated myself pleanty and part of it wont make sense. tired as hell. going with my trend and to leave you with a final statement on this issue..... MADD = bullsh*t, SADD = bullsh*t, they all had the right idea to begin with, now they are trying to tell people what they can and cant have on their tv/newspaper/magazine. So to them I say f*ck you. |

There are no need for guns, if they didnt have guns they wouldnt be able to rob banks so easily.
Some say you want a gun for protection, protection from people who may break into your house with ...... guns? No guns, no people breaking in with guns, no need to defend yourself from people with guns
Talking about the guns doing the robbing etc is idiotic, thats dettering away from the subject, if the guns were not there, there would be less gun related crimes (i would like to know what % of crimes involve guns, but im sure you can find some propaganda showing gun related crimes have dropped)

anyway - alcohol advertising shouldn't be banned.
cigarette advertising is &*^% why smoke cigarettes? if you're gonna die off ciggy's, why not smoke weed? its a hell of a lot better...

You made some good points Cope. But if ppl are going to go out and buy ciggs and alcohol why have it advertise anyways? There gonna get it no matter what... why advertise some hot babe and six pack dude with a nice chest.. rolling a beer bottle across his chest (or some weird crap like that) knowing that the kids are gonna see it and think "wow wish I had a babe like that in one hand and a beer in the other .. and looked like him, he is so cool"

EDIT= Let's do it this way. How does advertisments help you and benefit you? It let's you know what is out there right? Well, you can get your bum up and go to the store and see for yourself...your gonna have to go buy it anyways... if your in a mood to drink.
Why do they advertise? ANSWER = to reach more ppl. To get their product out there and sale it..to 'advertise' it... NOT just to ADULTS but to KIDS. WHY have a bar 18 up to enter and 21 and up to drink? whenever all that their doing now is feeding the minds to go buy it soon as they hit 21. Kids can watch tv and see it... they can read it in articles advertisements.. ect.. if your gonna make a law for no minors in a bar drinking... why would you want to put it on tv where minors can be watching it and having it in their head?
take a look adult gifts and xxxrated toys.. you don't see them in the grocery store where 'familys' are gathered togather do you? No of course not. They are in a 'adult' store. You don't see them advertise s**ually explicit toys on tv do you? why? Cause it's not for eyes of all ages. You go to a store if your so curious and buy it or look at it.. so why advertise something like beer on tv when you have to be a adult to buy it and children can see it?

lets ban takeaway adverts cos some ppl eat and get fat
lets ban womens hygeine products because they are embarrassing
