"The British Gov spends 3.5 Billion a year on the treatment of smoking related illness yet they collect within the region of 6.5 Billion from Tabbaco Tax yearly"
correct, but as you failed to mention deliberatly, very little of that tax money goes back into the NHS it goes on other areas of the country....
"And dangermouse, if the people smoking at the exits of your college annoy you so much, go to a student rep about it? or the college and make your complaint known, its all fine and well hashing it out online and complaining about how much you suffer becuase of smokers...but have you ever actualy taken messures to make this problem know? most likely not! use your right to free speech, thats what its there for ffs"
you cant win a loosing battle, u think ppl will stop smoking if college rep tells them too? u cant control the public
"Also back to alex quickly, you go on about how much trouble smokers cuase alex, but remember people who have been smoking for say 20 years plus will find it hard to give up, as nicotine is highly addictive and in some cases extremely hard to give up. So maybe if people looked at it from the point of view that smokers do have an addiction and Understand that, they wouldnt be so quick to jump on the smokers are evil bandwagon as so many have done on this thread, and you know, no matter how much you scream and shout about smoking in public, but frankly when im addicted to nicotine and im having a hard time giving it up, and the govs getting thousands out of me every year, making a profit from my and many others addiction , ill smoke where and when i flowering please, its that little thing called freedom"
thats right nicotine is addictive, its a drug, which makes you a drug user
, im not saying the smoker is evil, but the product is, it has no health benefits and causes more damage then good, and you saying you will smoke where you like is exactly the reason why people like dangermouse cant go to their club rep, people wont change their ways for anyone.
"But of course alex you would raise you point of " what if you walked past an asmatic kid" <-- you see that alex, thats Hysteria take to the MAX and also a restriction of my freedoms"
are your rights to make yourself ill with addiction justified enough to put others at risk?
"Smoking related treatments are not putting a squeeze on the national health service alex, what a load of utter coconuts to be frank about it and they actualy spend more cash on Heart related health problems that on smoking related illness, and of course some heart problems are smoking related but the majority percentage are not. So please in the future alex before you deciced to make such a large claim , read some of the national health litrature"
have you read how many people die from smoking each year, if you add up all the things smoking causes in general from lung conditions to cancer it raises well past a thousand deaths per year, just because smoking isnt the biggest problem doesnt mean it doesnt straign the resources.
"Alex, Tut tut pulling more misinformation out of your a** ol'chap!"
my opinion is justified, the fact stands that smoking accounts for a large amount of deaths and health related illness, the health service has to serve these people and give treatment to them when the condition has been braught on by the patient, the fact also still stands, im sorry that you believe that im misinforming people but i understand that as a smoker your judgement may be somewhat clouded by the fact that you will stand up for your right to smoke them
"Um, you have a choice. Don't go to the restaurant, don't leave your house, these are all choices you could make. So do not say you have no choices."
so become a prisoner of our own home?
you want facts? heres some...
"Many diseases can be attributable to smoking, such as cancers, heart disease and cerebrovascular disease, but smoking is not the only risk factor for these diseases. The cost to the NHS of treating people for diseases they developed as a result of their smoking is estimated to be between £1.4 and £1.7 billion in 1996 in England. These estimates were produced by the Centre for Health Economics at the University of York and the Health Education Authority. Expenditure on diseases to which smoking may make a contribution ("smoking related diseases") is necessarily higher. " - UK Parliment stationary office.
now that was in 1996 and smoking has risen by a LARGE percentage in recent years... you my friend are an idiot
, are you saying that 1.4 - 1.7 BILLION GBP every year is not putting a straign on the NHS?
if you are you are a fool
also alcohol.... "It is estimated that in England and Wales between September 1991 and August 1992 there were 60 GP consultations per 10,000 person years at risk arising from alcohol related illness. There were an estimated 1,022,000 bed days in hospital in England during 1994-95 arising from alcohol related illness. The Centre for Health Economics in York estimated that the costs of alcohol misuse to the NHS in 1994 of £164 million: this estimate was published by the Health Education Authority in 1997. "
over 1 million hospital beds taken up each year from alcohol illness.
and as you said... "well The British Gov spends 3.5 Billion a year on the treatment of smoking related illness yet they collect within the region of 6.5 Billion from Tabbaco Tax yearly"
well we all know much of that tax money goes into the NHS from what they gather in, you really think the NHS gets just under 50% of all tax income from cigerettes?, your figures are amusing
before you slander my words, check your facts
