Not to side anyone lol, but a petition made them think twice about making people pay for messenger. it's amazing how quick people are to judge something and toss it out as useless lol, if thats the way you feel, you should try to discourage others.

rift you post s3xy post's..
anyways, if msn sees that over 20 thousand people have signed AGAINST it, its not sif its going to change their mind 100%.. but they'll have to take it into consideration dont you think?
also.. does the OCX control whether a user has paid or the actual server?

for 2 years, people have been whining about porn bots and pedo rooms. "MSN Won't do something about it... they're lazy bastages... they are morons... they know nothing..." and the list goes on. People insist that MSN not only allows these actions, but goes out of their way to promote the actions. Users demand instant solutions. They yell over and over that MSN MUST DO SOMETHING NOW!!! Guess what. You got your wish. Lets step in the mind of a pedo, I dont think a few bucks will stop them, and monitoring chat wont make a diffrence if they pretend to have same age as the victim. Is MSN going to monitor whispers too? thats a nice idea to have a chat isnt it? knowing someone will be reading along 24/7 lol.. if they dont monitor whispers then whats the use saying chat going to be monitored? Porn bots are a pain, they could have used diffrent ways to ban from the server, like using LAN MAC/Physical addresses and Protocol Identifiers or something else that is PC unique.. you can change your ip but you dont have endless HD's lying around. Whats going to happen with i-desk? are they out of a job?

I can't help but wonder if msn will continue blasting their chat users with these inane ad banners and junk once it becomes a subscription service.

WebAgent, It is possible that "pedo's" will still use MSN Chat once it becomes subscription only, but MSN will have more effective methods of dealing with them. As for I-desk, I would assume if it isn't closed entirely, they will only need a few staff members to work there, so either way many MSN Chat staff will be out of jobs. Regards, Oddman.

The petition wont do naff all... they made there mind up, they wouldnt go on the news then change there mind, that would be stupid.
Whats the point in making people pay? that's like saying pedofiles done have money to pay and wont pay to get on... silly idea.
Young children etc will go to other places to meet new people that aren't monitored, so the pedofiles will get worse.
Conclusion: There's no point whatsoever in closing MSN Chat rooms.
ta-ta sie, ps im on guest cos im to lazy to sign in.

Sie, A "job" does not have to be something you do in return for money. A job can also be something you do without getting anything in return (Voluntary). Therefore, lot's of MSN Chat Staff will still be out of jobs, even though their jobs were voluntary. Sure, they'll have other jobs on the side, but loosing a job is loosing a job.

I dont see any harm coming to MSN from removing chat totally. Will not effect them hardly at all. Keeping them is open is different. Time to cut their loses and make it a pay service once again. blah blah. Im dont replying to these threads.

I believe if we we about 40,000 signatures, MSN will just cancel the whole project , and return the all money collected and I'm sure they will get in-contact with the few hundread major websites that published they were closing such as CNN etc etc. Then we can all get back to room taking, guest flooding, passport flooding and creating havok! So just keep signing it. ;D *SHING* I got an idea! Lets spam the link on MSN

Webagent,
Not sure if you understand how the whole subscription service will work but MSN will have everyone's details such as Home Address, Phone Number, D.O.B. etc. so it would seem very risky for paedophiles to continue using MSN Chat to target young children.
As for children maybe 'heading to a new server', I doubt this. Parents these days install software to block out certain websites on their computers to stop young children visiting them, so it's really up to parents to control what sites their children visit, not MSN. MSN are there to provide a service, not control what children do.
And the petition won't do much, MSN are trying to protect their brand name here, and if it means closing down their chat servers to freely visiting passport members, then they'll do that and they have been bugged over and over by Child Protection Agencies to stop the child abuse going on in their chat servers.

don't say the petition wont do anything. look at the riaa petition they didn't listen not one d**n bit to it. but it showed people banding together who cared about what was going on. people with similar views. anyone who doubts msn is a community at whole should take a second look at that petition because everyone who signed it, cared.
