That is a great idea Alex, but we need one person to organise it and compile all the information and set it all up, although I can help out and give assistance as needed I dont have the time to take on such a big project . Techgear is a seperate project, their is staff their that are not part of this team .

Nothing against techgear, but the forum and the irc server is just full of people who want help, and are not willing to help anyone else. All they provide are downloads , and a bit of news.
I wouldnt mind taking on the project, actually work towards completing a website. Loon is quite good at php and web design, and the other graphic designers here.
Sounds like a good idea, one of which i have proposed before but i think nobody really has the time, to work together as a team to complete such a large project. I think it would be better to work with techgear, to improve and build upon what they have already established.
Concerning the webchat interface, the msn ocx is coded in C++ and is coded very well. I doubt Chuck or JJ would have the time to code something similar, so Java applets are the next best option for a webchat. People have got to accept that if they dont want to pay for msn they will have to accept the alternatives. And i think all the people in your community Ozzy can download mirc, open it, type /server irc.isyourgod.com then /join #Chatroom. Would be better to educate them rather than go out of our way to provide an alternative to msn.
Hate to sound cynical but im just trying to be realistic, is the motivation from the people on the community really there?

Even working on a project on our own can show how much we don't need Techgear. We have the resources and the ideas to make it go ahead. I'd be willing to help in whichever possible way I can, everybody was a learner at one point, and most still are so why not help them out a bit just like the help we may have needed when we all started off?

The problem at the moment everyone is diversifying, we need to unite to create a better service. Look what happened to the Rail network when it was privatised into 100000 companies

I'd be happy to donate a domain name and fund any resources the site needs if you think it would work.
The problem is the last time something like this was attempted (rebuilding xt.vze.com) because of so many people that all had different opinions most discussions just turned into arguments. So i think the only way it would work is if no more than 2-3 people who are happy they can work together were looking after it.
A decent web based chat interface or viper/dom type client for xt.isyourgod.com is needed if you want to start attracting more people.
And Alex, is your return key broken

"A decent web based chat interface for xt.isyourgod.com is needed if you want to start attracting more people" This would have to be a Java client, i cant think of anything else.

To what you said before Danger about people disverifying, I'm not sure who you mean on that but I think now is a better time then ever to create a site now that everyone seems to be making the switch from MSN to IRCd.

I meant all the people making these new 'chat servers'. Most of which are ircxpro on Windows xp. And i agree, this is the best time to offer an alternative service, which is actually half decent.
As i said, NightStorm's server is highly reliable, although there are some glitches when linking/delinking servers.

Well I guess all servers experience difficulties at some point, but I agree that NightStorm's is very stable, from what I've seen anyhow. I guess the decision to create a site is over to someone else though...

Just a couple of points... 1. Website sounds great, I say we start a poll or something just to see how many people would support this sort of project. Already we have Loon and Dangermouse, I know you guys can do a good job on this 2. NightStorm's server has had webchat for 2 years - www.chat.isyourgod.com/ - yes it's Java, but there are people like Webby, Rift and Lazer working on interfaces for the server. As Loon said, this would bring more people in if they saw how advanced we were in terms of usability. 3. What actually happened to the old xTeam site? I had a friend who claimed he worked on it, next thing I knew the link redirected to the forum...

i dont really understand the need for a website - isnt all the information you would provide on it located in this forum anyway ??
dont want to give ppl too many areas to look for info, just becomes confusing
a one stop shop is much better in my oppinion

Yes pashingflower, but not many new people will use the search function on the forum and topics are repeated over and over... a website could be an easy to navigate basis for these things.
